As the most widely-used OS in the world, Windows systems are probably used for the majority of your business applications. With the beginning of the year still upon us, now is a great time to get your computer up and ready for what 2017 has to bring by checking off the maintenance tasks on this checklist:

  • Back up your data–In the event of a loss, theft, or catastrophe, it’s imperative you have access to your data. If you have yet to implement an automatic backup scheme for your computer system, we recommend manually performing a full backup. Keep in mind that to help with this process, all versions of Windows since Vista come with a modern backup application.
  • Update Windows–Even though Windows systems come with the ability to update automatically, many do not receive regular system updates. As the New Year gets rolling, make it a habit to ensure your systems are always updated.
  • Upgrade applications–As you update your computer system, make sure that all of the applications you use are current. This will make sure your system is as secure as possible and that the applications you use are compatible with newer hardware.
  • Uninstall unused applications– Apps that you don’t use take up space on your computer and slow it down. Go through your system and identify applications, both large and small, that no longer serve a purpose. Then, go ahead and uninstall them.
  • Upgrade hardware–If you are working on an older Windows PC, it may be a good time to determine if using your current device is still beneficial. You may also want to consider adding more RAM, switching to a solid-state drive, or upgrading to a larger external drive to gain improved performance.
